Instructions:

For the Twins cake, cream butter with sugar, vanilla sugar and grated vanilla. First mix in the eggs well, then stir in the sour cream. Sift flour with baking powder and salt and add to the mixture. Finally, fold in the iced chocolate chips.

Pour into a small cake pan (20 – 22 cm). (Cover the bottom with baking paper). Bake at 180 °C for approx. 40 minutes with circulating air. (Test with chopsticks!) Then let cool completely.

Meanwhile, prepare the cream. Melt the couverture over a water bath and mix in 2 tablespoons of the whipped cream. Bring the rest of the whipped cream to the boil and add to the couverture.

Beat well with a mixer and refrigerate until the mixture is spreadable. Both batter and cream must be completely cooled before proceeding.

Place the cake on a platter, but not centered on one side. Spread the cream generously over the cake – it doesn’t have to be pretty, you won’t see any of it later. (The cream is “glue”!).

Around the cake, arrange the Duplo bars on edge, leaving an opening about 14 inches wide on one side. Now tie a ribbon all around if you wish – this is not absolutely necessary, but it looks pretty and makes the whole thing a bit more stable.

In front of this opening, spread some cream on the plate as well, so that the “balls” stick better afterwards. Now cover half of the cake with m&ms and the other half with Maltesers, as well as the coated area of the plate.

Coat the center of 2 wooden chopsticks with the cream and insert them into the cake. Glue m&ms and maltesers to each of the cream. (If this doesn’t hold well, just use melted chocolate instead of the cream. It’s a matter of temperature…)

At the end, stick on the sticks the packages carefully cut at only one small corner, so that it looks like the cake is filled by the floating packages themselves!

Make sure that the packages are filled with air and thus still look full. (If that doesn’t work, just stuff them with some clear plastic wrap).

Preparation Tip:

This Twins cake is relatively small in base size, but with all the luscious sweets, it will satisfy quite a few sweet tooths!
