(*) for mother and 1 child (1-3 years) Briefly rinse rolled barley in a sieve with warm water. Bring to a boil in a saucepan with tomato juice and clear soup. Simmer gently for 25 minutes until rolled barley is tender.

Grind basil with oil and Parmesan in a tall mug to a creamy paste (pesto).

Season generously with salt and freshly ground pepper; add pesto and bread to table.
