Prepare sugar and 8 tbsp. water in about three minutes to a clear syrup and cool. Mix flour, cornstarch and baking powder and sift into a large enough bowl. Make a well in the center.

Add sugar syrup, peanut oil and sesame oil. Knead with the dough hook of a mixer until smooth. Form dough into a roll, cut into 20 pieces and shape into balls. Immediately roll in sesame seeds and press the grains well until smooth.

Bake in batches at 180 °C for about 10 minutes.

Drain on kitchen paper.

Serve with: fresh fruit, e.g. banana, pineapple, melon, mango, lychee and Cape gooseberries. Remove the skin from the fruit, divide into pieces and arrange on crushed ice.
