For the grape cake, let butter come to room temperature. Separate eggs. Beat butter with about two-thirds of the sugar, yolks, and vanilla sugar until fluffy. Mix in lemon zest.

Beat egg whites with remaining sugar until stiff peaks form.

Mix flour with baking powder and fold in alternately with the snow.

Grease a suitable baking pan with melted butter and sprinkle with flour. Pour in the dough and bake in the preheated oven at 170-180°C for about 35-55 minutes, depending on the pan. Lift out and spread with jam when slightly cool.

In the meantime, for the vanilla cream, mix pudding powder with a little milk until smooth, boil remaining milk and prepare pudding according to instructions. Let hot pudding get cold, stirring repeatedly.Cream confectioners’ sugar with butter, then stir into cold pudding.

Spread grape cake with the vanilla cream. Wash the grapes, drain well and spread decoratively over the cake. Prepare cake jelly according to instructions and pour over grapes. Allow to set in a cold place.

Garnish grape cake with whipped cream before serving.

Preparation Tip:

You can also stir some curd into the vanilla cream in the grape cake recipe and apply the grapes first and then cover with the cream as desired. The covering with jelly is then omitted.
