Instructions:

For the combs with poppy and nut filling, mix the sifted flour, sugar melted fat, egg, a little salt and the grated lemon peel in a bowl.

Prepare a dampfl with yeast, lukewarm milk and a pinch of sugar. Mix with the rest of the milk to make a smooth dough and let it rise.

For the poppy seed filling, grind the poppy seeds and cook in the milk for 10 minutes, stirring. At the end of the cooking time, add the sugar and let cool. Fold in butter and cinnamon, thicken with the almond kernels and possibly with sponge crumbs and mix well.

For the nut filling, chop nuts and currants/raisins, add rum and honey and mix well.

Roll out the dough and cut into small rectangles. Fill the rectangles with poppy seed or nut filling and roll up into rolls. Score about 5 times on the outside and twist into a semicircle.

Place on a greased baking tray, let rise a little more, brush with beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 150 degrees for about 25-30 minutes.

Sprinkle combs with poppy seed and nut filling with vanilla sugar.
