Instructions:

Wash apples, rub dry, cut out the cores and cut the apples into slices about 1 cm thick.

Heat butter in a pan, add sugar and 8 apple slices and let caramelize briefly.

Preheat the oven to 180 °C top/bottom heat.

Place the ham on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake in the hot oven for approx. 5 minutes until crispy. Take it out and let it cool down. Leave the baking paper on the baking sheet and remove the 8 apple slices from the pan and place them on top.

Now preheat the oven to 200 °C with the grill function.

Meanwhile, wash and dry the thyme sprigs, pluck off the leaves and sprinkle half of them on 4 large apple slices. Place one slice of ham on each. Place the goat cheese on top of the ham, drizzle each with 2 tsp of honey, sprinkle with the chopped hazelnuts and the remaining thyme leaves. Bake in a hot oven under the broiler for 5 to 7 minutes.

Meanwhile, for the salad dressing, squeeze the orange. Mix juice with honey, mustard and balsamic vinegar and season with vanilla extract, salt and pepper. Add olive oil and mix well. Wash and dry the lettuce, mix it with the salad dressing and divide it among 4 plates.

Remove the baking tray from the oven and place the uncovered 4 apple slices as a lid on the cheese and serve the burgers lukewarm on the bed of lettuce.

Preparation Tip:

Another variant: replace the apples with pears.
